NY fort’s artifacts on display in Boston for 1-day exhibit

TICONDEROGA, N.Y. – Fort Ticonderoga is taking items from its extensive collection of 18th century military artifacts on a road trip.

Officials at the New York historic site and tourist attraction say objects from the 1700s will be on display Thursday at the Boston Public Library during an invitation-only event for the fort’s supporters.

Curator Matthew Keagle says many of the artifacts on display haven’t been back to Boston since they were created. They include a British infantry sword, a military training manual for redcoats printed by a Boston bookseller in 1755, and a Massachusetts soldier’s pre-Revolutionary War coat that’s considered the oldest American-made military uniform in existence.

Keagle says the items on display in Boston reflect the city’s 260-year history with Ticonderoga, where Massachusetts soldiers found and died during the French and Indian War and the American Revolution.
