TIFF announces Canada on Screen plans for country’s 150th birthday
TORONTO – The organization behind the Toronto International Film Festival is planning several special events for Canada’s 150th birthday in 2017.
TIFF says the Canada on Screen plans are a co-production with Library and Archives Canada, the Cinematheque quebecoise, and The Cinematheque in Vancouver.
The plans, which kick off in January 2017 and run throughout the year, include moving-image installations, special guests and free screenings in Toronto and across the country.
The screenings will include “Atanarjuat: The Fast Runner,” featuring a live orchestral performance of Chris Crilly’s award-winning score, along with Inuit throat singers.
TIFF will also release a list of 150 essential moving-image works from Canada’s cinematic history, based on a national poll of industry professionals.
Since the plans are a Canada 150 Signature Project, TIFF says the government of Canada is contributing funding of up to $1.3 million.
