Okanagan may get a spot of rain before sun rolls in for long weekend

KELOWNA – There’s a lot of sun and heat in the Okanagan long weekend forecast.

Environment Canada says there may be a bit of rain in parts of the valley tomorrow, but to expect sunny conditions throughout the Okanagan for the remainder of the B.C. Day long weekend.

The high today should reach 31 C with an overnight low of 15 C in Vernon and Kelowna, while Penticton should get to 32 C with a low of 17 C.

Friday, a mix of sun and clouds could bring a 30 per cent chance of showers in the afternoon and evening, with a high of 29 C and a low of 14 C expected.

Penticton should see a mix of sun and cloud during the day with a 30 per cent chance of showers overnight.

Winds will be northwest at 20 km/h, gusting to 40 in the afternoon.

Temperatures are expected to dip a bit on Saturday, but sunny skies should return with an expected high of 26 C on Saturday and 28 C on Sunday, along with overnight lows of 13 C and 14 C.

Holiday Monday should see more sunshine and a high of 32 C.

Similar conditions are expected for the return to work Tuesday, with a high of 31 C under sunny skies.

Vernon, Kelowna and Penticton’s normal high and low for this time of year is 27 C and 12 C.

I have been looking for news in the South Okanagan - SImilkameen for 20 years, having turned a part time lifelong interest into a full time profession. After five years publishing a local newsletter, several years working as a correspondent / stringer for several local newspapers and seven years as editor of a Similkameen weekly newspaper, I joined iNFOnews.ca in 2014. As an airborne geophysical surveyor I travelled extensively around the globe, conducting helicopter borne mineral surveys.
I also spent several years at an Okanagan Falls based lumber mill, producing glued-wood laminated products.
As a member of the Kaleden community, I have been involved in the Kaleden Volunteer Fire Department for 22 years, and also serve as a trustee on the Kaleden Irrigation District board.
I am currently married to my wife Judy, of 26 years. We are empty-nesters who enjoy living in Kaleden with our Welsh Terrier, Angus, and cat, Tibbs.
Our two daughters, Meagan and Hayley, reside in Richmond and Victoria, respectively.
