US defeats Canada 6-2 to win gold medal in under 18 baseball tourney

SEOUL, South Korea – The United States defeated Canada 6-2 in the gold medal game of the under 18 world baseball championships in South Korea.

Canada has won gold only once at the tournament.

In 1991, a team led by Stubby Clapp and Jason Dickson defeated Taiwan 5-2 in the championship game in Brandon, Man.

The Canadians won bronze in 1983, 1987, 1997 and 2006.

Despite a 9-3 loss to South Korea on Friday, the Canadians secured a spot in Saturday’s final against the Americans based on tournament standings.

Canada defeated the U.S. in extra innings earlier in the tournament.
