Lightning ignites two small wildfires south of Penticton
PENTICTON – B.C. Wildfire crews are responding to two new spot fires in the South Okanagan following last night’s lightning storm.
Wildfire communications officer Taylor MacDonald says a crew will be dispatched this morning, July 24, to the McIntyre Bluff fire, which is classified as out of control at less than a hectare in size.
A second fire was reported yesterday afternoon near Aeneas Lake, off Marron Valley Road. A three-person crew and a bird dog aircraft attended the spot fire which is considered being held at this time.
Both fires are believed to have been started by lightning.
MacDonald says there is also a possibility of holdover fires as a result of last night’s storm, which caused multiple lightning strikes in the South Okanagan.
