Two small wildfires sparked by lightning in North Okanagan
NORTH OKANAGAN – Fire crews are dealing with two small wildfires in the North Okanagan today following the system of thundershowers that moved through yesterday afternoon.
B.C. Wildfire Service fire information officer Kelsey Dunkley said a fire at Nobel Creek, 14 kilometres east of Vernon and adjacent to Highway 6, is believed to have been caused by lightning and started late yesterday, July 22, afternoon.
The spot fire is under control and three Wildfire Service personnel are working to put it out.
A second fire is currently burning west of Cooke Creek, 20 kilometres northeast of Enderby.
The suspected lightning-caused fire is also quite small but currently out of control. Three firefighters are currently responding to the fire, along with a helicopter.
Dunkley could not confirm how close either of the fires is to any structures.
