Few lace up for Stuart Park ice rink opening

KELOWNA – The Stuart Park public ice rink opened for the season today, but due to strong wind and frigid temperatures, there weren’t many takers.
That didn’t stop Kelowna resident Christian Thibeaux, however.
“There have been a few people here this morning,” he said. “But it’s been pretty cold. I usually go up to Big White or Joe Rich or try to find a frozen lake somewhere but we’re a couple weeks away from that still. At least (Stuart rink) is consistent.”
This is the second year the rink has been open to the public, and it’s the first year that skate rentals will be available on site from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily, excluding holidays.
Stuart Park rink is scheduled to remain in place until late February, weather permitting. Public skating is also offered at Rutland Arena, Capital News Centre and Memorial Area.
