House arrest, firearms ban for drug-dealing resort owner in B.C. Interior
KAMLOOPS, B.C. – A man convicted of selling drugs from his fishing resort in British Columbia’s Interior won’t be going to jail though he will spend the next 10 months under house arrest.
Sixty-four-year-old Gerald Burgess was convicted in the summer of possessing for the purpose of trafficking drugs like oxycodone, morphine, and hydromorphone but not cocaine.
B.C. Supreme Court heard police seized cocaine and prescription drugs during a February 2011 raid of his home at the Loon Lake Resort near Clinton, north of Cache Creek.
The Crown alleged he was selling drugs to supplement his resort business.
In addition to his conditional-sentence order of two years less a day and house arrest, Burgess faces a ban on firearms and must submit his DNA to a national criminal database.
He must also allow police to search his property at any point during the next two years, except for room rented by clients.
