VICTORIA – Police in Victoria have shut down a stretch of beach, following the discovery of what appears to be three children’s shoes with a “meat-like substance” and bone inside.
Const. Mike Russell says the first shoe was found on the beachfront at Clover Point early Thursday evening by a tourist.
Police closed off a section of the beach and then found two more shoes, all appearing to have what Russell described as a “meat-like substance” and bone inside.
Russell says the shoes were still on the beach Thursday night, while officers, the canine unit and the coroner searched for more evidence in the area.
He says it’s too early to say whether the shoes and their contents are human, a determination that will be made by the coroner and pathologist.
Since 2007, nine feet have washed up on B.C. beaches, with several others also appearing in Washington state.
