Facebook to federal drug agency: Don’t use fake profile pages for law enforcement
WASHINGTON – Facebook wants the Drug Enforcement Administration to confirm that it has stopped operating any fake profile pages on the social network.
In a letter Friday to DEA Administrator Michele Leonhart, Facebook’s chief security officer, Joe Sullivan, says law enforcement agencies are held to the same community standards as civilian users. Those standards include bans on fake profiles.
Sullivan’s letter is in response to a New York woman’s lawsuit against the DEA in which she claims an agent set up a fake page using her name and pictures from her cellphone. The pictures were retrieved from her phone after she was arrested on drug charges in 2010 and her phone seized.
