Phoenix opens first phase of modernized Sky Harbor terminal

PHOENIX – The first phase of a modernization project of Sky Harbor International Airport in Phoenix is open for business.

The makeover of Terminal 3 includes a larger, consolidated security checkpoint and new ticket counters.

City officials also point to features such as electrical outlets at nearly all seats, windows providing mountain and downtown skyline views and use of natural lighting during daylight.

The terminal originally opened in 1979. It serves Delta, Frontier, Hawaiian and JetBlue airlines.

Additional phases of the modernization project include replacing the terminal’s south concourse, adding new food and retail concessions and upgrading the north concourse.

The entire project is scheduled to be completed in 2020.
