PENTICTON – A convicted woman wants to stay in prison to better her life and Judge Gale Sinclair agrees.

Megan Anne Roberts, 26, was sentenced in Penticton Provincial Court today to six months at the Alouette Correctional Centre for Women for breaching a conditional sentence order. Roberts was on that order after being found guilty for numerous charges stemming from her involvement in the theft of a van from the Penticton Boys and Girls Club on April 3. She and Curtis Sopkow, 33, were arrested a short time after and faced drug and theft charges.

She broke a condition of her sentence order sometime around Sept. 14. She was found by a police officer carrying a backpack and gave a false name when questioned. When pressured for more details she gave in.

"She has already fessed up to it to the officers," defense lawyer James Pennington said.

Sinclair dropped her conditional sentence order in favour of Roberts' request for incarceration.

Roberts, who appeared via video, told the judge she's keeping busy and working as much as possible while being incarcerated.

"I try to be pro-active," she said.

"Keep up the good work so when you get out you're on the straight and narrow," Sinclair responded.
