Crews and helicopters battling wildfire on North Vancouver mountain

NORTH VANCOUVER, B.C. – A wildfire has broken out on a mountain in North Vancouver, B.C., billowing a column of smoke that can be seen around the Lower Mainland.

Fire information officer Donna MacPherson says there’s no threat to any homes at this time.

She says the blaze was reported around 4:30 p.m. in the Mount Fromme area, just east of Grouse Mountain.

MacPherson says by the early evening, the fire’s size had grown to 10 metres by 15 metres and was smoldering with some open flame.

She says the resulting smoke could be seen around the Lower Mainland.

MacPherson says three attack crews, consisting of nine firefighters, had been assigned to the blaze, and four helicopters were on site.
