GEORGETOWN, Guyana – A fisherman in Guyana has been charged in a deadly April attack on fishing boats off the coast of neighbouring Suriname.
A Guyanese police official says 39-year-old Nakool Manohar has been detained on suspicion of murder for involvement in the April 27 on four boats that left 15 men missing and presumed dead.
Divisional Commander Lyndon Alves said Thursday that Manohar is also suspected of involvement in two previous robbery attacks on fishing boats in the Atlantic Ocean off Suriname in 2015 and 2016.
Manohar made an initial court appearance on the charge but did not enter a plea.
The fishermen attacked last month were robbed and then forced to jump overboard. Five made it to shore and three bodies were found.
