Free mini golf at McArthur Island Park in Kamloops
KAMLOOPS – A new mini golf course is open to the public in Kamloops in McArthur Island Park.
City parks, sustainability and civic facilities manager Jeff Putnam tweeted yesterday, June 4, about the “breaking news.”
According to Putnam, it took two months to clean up the course and get it up to par for public use.
“It’s been a little bit overgrown, because it’s been dormant for years. The staff did a really great job of cleaning it up and making it appear much nicer,” he says.
The City was able to bring the project to fruition and keep it below budget.
“We were originally budgeted $10,000 to refurbish it, but we didn’t need to go anywhere near that in terms of cost,” Putnam says.
The course is free to use, but players must bring their own putter and a golf ball.
According to Putnam, it is one of the only mini golf courses in Kamloops, and the only outdoor one. He also believes it may be one of a kind in the province.
“I’d be surprised if there’s another free mini golf course in B.C. of that quality and that’s run by a municipality,” Putnam says. "I think it really cool Kamloops has it.”
