Nesters Market in Kelowna closing its doors

KELOWNA – The Nesters Market grocery store in Kelowna is closing its doors for good later this month.

The grocery store, which has been a cornerstone of the Centuria development for more than a decade, is slated to close on June 15. It’s at the corner of Bernard Avenue and Gordon Drive, and B.C. Assessment lists Centuria as being built in 2006.

No one at the store was authorized to speak about the closure. A notice on the door was posted a couple of days ago, one woman said.

The sign at the Kelowna store says customers can still visit Nesters in West Kelowna and at Kelowna Airport.

Nesters is owned by Buy-Low Foods which, in turn, is owned by the Jim Patterson Group out of Vancouver. Buy-Low bought Choices Markets in February, according to Grocery Business web page.

“Buy-Low Foods has been in growth mode in recent years,” Grocery Business reported. “In 2017, the company opened three new stores and one replacement store and added the Gabriola Village Foods operation. The replacement store in West Kelowna, BC, is a Nesters Market and was a smaller Shop N' Save store Buy-Low Foods that operated in that community for close to 30 years.”

Jim Pattison also owns Save on Foods.

Calls to Buy-Low Foods vice-president for retail Sam Corea were not immediately returned.
