UPDATE: Three small wildfires break out near Kamloops
KAMLOOPS — Three small wildfires are currently burning just outside of Kamloops after some lightning rolled through this afternoon.
The B.C. Wildfire Service have both ground and air personnel tackling a 4.5 hectare wildfire at the Painted Bluffs Provincial Park near Savona today, May 30.
Fire information officer Hannah Swift says there are also two other fires burning in close proximity and they don't have sizes on those ones yet.
Wildfire Service has ground crews and two helicopters en route to the lightning-caused blaze north of Savona, as well as air tankers.
There are no structures at risk but smoke is definitely visible from the Trans-Canada Highway.
The #BCWildfire Service is currently responding to a lightning strike 8 km north of #Savona near Kamloops Lake (K20409). Smoke may be visible from #Hwy1 across #Kamloops Lake. BCWS ground personnel and aerial resources are on site for an initial assessment. More info to come.
