NEW YORK, N.Y. – A bouquet of wildflowers painted by Vincent van Gogh weeks before his death is going on the auction block in New York City.
Sotheby’s says “Still Life, Vase With Daisies and Poppies” could sell for $30 million to $50 million on Nov. 4.
Van Gogh painted it at the home of his physician, Dr. Paul Gachet, in 1890. It’s one of the few works he sold during his lifetime.
One of the founders of the Museum of Modern Art, A. Conger Goodyear, acquired it in 1928. It remained in the family for decades.
It was on permanent exhibition at the Albright-Knox Art Gallery in Buffalo for 30 years. The current owner purchased it around 1990.
