MAYNOOTH, Ireland – Canada is just back of the leaders after an excellent second round at the world amateur men’s team golf championships.
Garrett Rank of Elmira, Ont., Joey Savoie of La Prairie, Que., and Hugo Bernard of Mont-Saint-Hilaire, Que., combined to shoot 13-under 139 on Thursday (only the top two scores count). That pushed Canada within two shots of the leaders from New Zealand.
Canada is fifth at the halfway mark of the 57-country event.
Bernard led the way with a 7-under 66 in the second round. Savoie carded a 67, while Rank had a 72.
Individually, Savoie is the top Canadian at 7 under through two days, good for a tie for 19th. He’s seven strokes behind leader Sadom Kaewkanjana of Thailand.
Bernard and Rank are both at 5 under.
