Senate again signs off on Sept. 25 as National Lobster Day
PORTLAND, Maine – The U.S. Senate says September 25 should once again be designated as National Lobster Day in honour of New England’s most celebrated crustacean.
New England senators made the request last month, citing the lobster’s cultural and economic importance to the region. The Senate passed this year’s resolution on Tuesday.
The same day was named in the lobster’s honour last year.
Maine Lobster Marketing Collaborative executive director Matt Jacobson says the designation will put a “national spotlight” on the industry during the most important part of the season.
The U.S. lobster fishery was worth more than a half a billion dollars last year. Maine is by far the biggest lobster fishing state.
