Deputies: Car crashes into sheriff’s office substation

[byline]

PEMBROKE PARK, Fla. – Florida deputies didn’t have far to travel when responding to a car wreck because it crashed into a sheriff’s office substation.

A Broward Sheriff’s Office news release says the crash occurred shortly before noon Monday at the agency’s South Broward district office in Pembroke Park.

Deputies say a woman smashed her car into the office’s community service room and a fire erupted inside the vehicle.

A worker who was painting inside the office helped the woman out of the car. Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue transported the woman to a Hollywood hospital with third-degree burns.

A sheriff’s office employee who hurt herself while evacuating was also hospitalized as a precaution.

Officials weren’t immediately naming the driver or what caused the crash.
