Supplement manufacturer coming to Penticton

PENTICTON – The City of Penticton’s economic development officer is excited and pleased at the prospect of a new owner and operator for the former Trophic Nutritional Supplements building in the city’s industrial area.

Sangster’s is a vertically integrated company that produces and sells its own product line of vitamins, supplements, snacks and weight loss products. The company’s manufacturing arm, Canadian Bio, is relocating its operations from Saskatoon to Penticton.

Sangster’s also has a retail outlet for their products at Cherry Lane Mall.

It’s a fantastic little company, fully integrated,” said City of Penticton Economic Development Officer Colleen Pennington. “It’s a nice little company.”

Pennington said Sangster’s was outgrowing its present production facility in Saskatoon and the company recently found itself asking whether to expand in Saskatchewan or elsewhere.

“The Trophic building is custom made for Sangster’s,” Pennington said, “that will help them get going quickly.”

Pennington said the company is asking its employee base in Saskatoon if they wish to relocate to Penticton. She also said the company is interested in former employees of Trophic who might be available, in Penticton, noting the Saskatoon employees would have the first opportunity for available jobs.

Pennington said Sangster’s hopes to be operating out of Penticton by spring of 2015. She said the building is large enough to allow for sub leasing of a portion of it, with an opportunity for expansion in the future.

“We’re trying to help any way we can,” Pennington said, “overall this is fantastic news for the economy."

She said the company expects to hire at least 10 people.

“Even CEO Darryl Sangster is moving here,” she said.

The Trophic Nutritional Supplements building, located at 260 Okanagan Avenue East, has been vacant since 2012.
