Words of support in Ottawa for Kamloops RCMP officer shot on the job

KAMLOOPS – The RCMP officer shot and wounded in Kamloops has been praised in the House of Commons.

Kamloops-Thompson-Cariboo MP Cathy McLeod rose in the House of Commons Wednesday to speak about the “horrific event” in her riding.

Cpl. Jean Michaud continues to recover from the gun shot wound he received on Dec. 3 during a traffic stop at 2:45 a.m.

McLeod also expressed her appreciation for all members of Canada’s national police force.

“Events such as these are dark reminders of the dangers front line RCMP officers across the country are putting themselves in everyday of the year,” she told the House. “They will be serving, as we spend time with our families on Christmas Eve and as we sit down to our Christmas dinners, defending and protecting Canadians and their communities.”

“These are individuals who have built a reputation for ensuring a safe and secure Canada. It is an organization that is recognized around the world for the courage and accomplishments demonstrated by its members.”

Michaud came out of a drug-induced coma on Monday and was able to speak to his family for the first time since he was shot.

Kenneth Michael Knutson, 36, was arrested a day after the shooting and has been charged with attempted murder.
