Strikes to hit road, rail and air transport in France

PARIS – Lorry drivers are expected to put up roadblocks around France’s major cities, and unions are calling for a strike on the Paris subway Tuesday to reject a hotly contested labour reform.

New rounds of protests are scheduled this week across the country to reject a law aimed at loosening the country’s stringent labour rules.

Calls by angry unions have been prompted by the government’s decision last week to use a special measure to pass the legislation without voting in the lower house.

Disruptions due to a rail workers’ strike are expected on train traffic Wednesday and Thursday, and air controllers are to join the protest movement on Thursday.

Meanwhile, the police are to demonstrate against violence Wednesday in Paris, after two months of almost daily clashes between police and protesters.
