Officer shot in Kamloops well enough to talk to family

KAMLOOPS – The officer who was shot last week in Kamloops and rushed to Royal Inland Hospital for surgery continues to improve after waking up from an induced coma.
Cpl. Jean Rene Michaud remains in intensive care and is conscious and able to speak to his family according to an RCMP media release.
"His medical progress is very uplifting news for his family, colleagues, and the community as a whole," RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Cheryl Bush said. "Fellow RCMP officers from across the country, colleagues in Kamloops and the general public have been incredibly generous with their well wishes and contributions to the Michaud family during this difficult time."
The major crimes unit continues to investigate the incident with court dates pending. Although other arrests were made subsequent to the investigation, Kennith Michael Knutson is still the only person directly charged directly in relation to the shooting of Michaud, Bush says.
