VIENNA – Police say a steer killed a farmer while he was working in its stall, in the latest of several deaths or injuries over the past few weeks caused by Austrian cattle.
A police statement says the 49-year old victim was crushed to death Tuesday. A worker on the farm in western Austria heard screams but arrived to find the man already dead.
The victim was not identified, in accordance with Austrian confidentiality rules.
He was killed a little more than two weeks after a herd of cows attacked and killed a German woman hiking through their pasture in Tyrol province. Police said the animals were apparently riled by the sight of her leashed dog.
At least two other people have been injured in Austria by cattle since that incident.
