UPDATE: Power outage persists for some Vernon and Coldstream homes

UPDATE: 1:13 P.M. DEC. 5

Power has been restored to most customers affected by a large outage Friday morning. According to a 12:19 p.m. update on B.C. Hydro's website, only 202 of an original 2,393 customers are still without power. The remaining outages are focused in the area south of Star Road, north of French Road and east of Mutrie Road. Those customers are expected to regain power by 3 p.m. Friday. 

ORIGINAL STORY

VERNON – A large outage has stripped thousands of customers of power in Vernon, Coldstream and Spallumcheen.

B.C. Hydro reports 2,393 customers have no power after an outage at 10:48 a.m. Friday.

The affected area is south of Greenhow Road, north of 14 Avenue and west of Lynx Road.

B.C. Hydro estimates the power will be back on by 1 p.m. Friday.

The cause of the outage remains under investigation.
