VIDEO: Vernon business surprises customer with heartfelt Christmas gift

VERNON – A local Vernon business is getting into the spirit of Christmas.

Rice Box owner On Ouch surprised a loyal customer recently with an all expenses paid trip down to Vancouver to see a Canucks game.

He hoped the gift would make the holidays extra special for the single mom and her kids.

“This has been completely and totally unexpected….” the lucky recipient said. “(My) kids have never ever done anything like this, but thanks to On and the Rice Box, something magical is going to take place in their lives.”

Ouch’s family was sponsored to come to Vernon by B.C.’s Cambodia Support Group in 1989. Ouch opened the Rice Box in 2001, and hosts a fundraising event called the Wokathon each year in support of the Cambodia Support Group and Vernon Jubilee Hospital. This year’s Wokathon is set for Jan. 19, from 12-7:30 p.m. When you buy a meal, all the revenue goes to the charities.
