TORONTO – Pension fund manager OMERS earned an investment return of 11.5 per cent after all expenses last year, topping the 10.3 per cent result it posted in 2016.
The defined-benefit pension plan for Ontario’s municipal employees said all of its major asset classes performed well for the year.
OMERS public equity investments were up 14.7 per cent in 2017, while its total fixed income earned 4.3 per cent.
Private investments by the fund earned 11.6 per cent including 11.1 per cent by private equity, 12.3 per cent by infrastructure and 11.4 per cent by real estate.
The pension fund said it’s funded status in 2017 improved to 94 per cent, up from 93.4 per cent in 2016.
OMERS invests and administers pensions for members from municipalities, school boards, emergency services and local agencies across Ontario.
