Vernon pool scheduled for one day maintenance closure

VERNON – Swimmers in Vernon will have to take a day out of the water while the pool receives unexpected maintenance.

The Vernon Aquatic Centre will be closed Thursday, Feb. 14 so crews can replace a damaged part of the Lap Pool Air Handling Unit. A media release from the City says the "unexpected preventative maintenance" to the pool is expected to take between eight and 16 hours to complete.

The City says the air handling unit needs to be turned off while being repaired, which can lead to a build up of carbon dioxide and chloramines in the pool area, which would be a safety concern for pool users and staff.

The City says the pool should reopen as normal Friday, Feb. 15.
