Man convicted of killing wife with hammer gets life sentence

HANOVER COURTHOUSE, Va. – A man convicted of beating his wife to death with a hammer after using a dating app to meet other women has been sentenced to life in prison.

The Richmond Times-Dispatch reports that 34-year-old Harshadkumar Jadav was sentenced Thursday after being convicted of murder last June.

Prosecutor Shari Skipper says 30-year-old Reena Jadav had a broken skull and jaw from at least 19 blows she suffered, among other injuries. Skipper also noted that Jadav stood to get more than $1 million in life insurance if his wife died.

Jadav’s defence said he didn’t know about the insurance policies, and deserved a lighter sentence because he has two master’s degrees and no prior criminal record.

Hanover Circuit Court Judge Patricia Kelly refused.
