Business leaders, former politicians sign-on to support Northern Gateway

VANCOUVER – A who’s who of the business world is featured in a full-page newspaper ad running nationwide promoting the Northern Gateway pipeline on the cusp of a federal decision on the project.

The company ad says the pipeline underscores how projects of national significance can “become the catalyst for new and better standards” for industry.

It’s signed by a host of former federal Conservatives, as well as Metis Nation of B.C. president Bruce Dumont and National Post editor-at-large Diane Francis.

It’s also signed by former Liberal deputy prime minister John Manley — now the president of the Canadian Council of Chief Executives — and former federal Liberal minister and Newfoundland premier, Brian Tobin — now vice-chairman of BMO Financial Group.

Federal Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau opposes the pipeline.

The federal cabinet has until next Tuesday to announce its final decision on the project that would deliver oilsands crude to a marine terminal on the British Columbia coast for export to Asia.
