SYDNEY – Midnight Oil drummer Rob Hirst says members of the iconic Australian rock band are keen to reunite for a tour, but front man Peter Garrett is busy writing a memoir.
Hirst told Faster Louder online music magazine in an interview published Tuesday that Garrett’s writing “might take a while.”
Garrett quit the band in 2002 to pursue a career in federal politics. He became a Cabinet minister in the previous Labor Party government before quitting Parliament at elections in September last year.
Midnight Oil was a loud, anti-establishment band that released a series of successful albums during a 26-year career. Its biggest international hit single was “Beds are Burning” from the band’s 1987 album “Diesel and Dust.”
The band has reformed twice for charity concerts.
