Stormy, mild weather expected in Kamloops into next week

PENTICTON – The official start to winter season is only a week away but temperatures in Kamloops won’t feel too winter-like over the weekend.

Environment Canada meteorologist Armel Castellan says the city will continue to feel the effects of a “parade of storms” that began earlier this week, bringing rain and wind to the valley floor and heavy snow to the mountain passes.

"There will be a break in the stormy weather on Saturday before a new system brings rain and potentially destructive winds on Sunday, with the inclement weather expected to last into the middle or latter part of next week," Castellan says.

Heavy snow can be expected in mountain passes with mostly rain falling on the valley floor.

For today, Dec. 13, Kamloops can expect a mix of sun and cloud with an east wind at 30 gusting to 50 km/h and a high of 8 Celsius.

A low of 4 C tonight will be followed by sunny skies tomorrow with increasing cloudiness and a 40 per cent chance of showers in the afternoon.

Winds will continue from the east at 40 km/h gusting to 60 tomorrow with a high of 9 C and a low of 2 C.

Saturday is expected to be sunny with a high of 6 C.

On Sunday and Monday, a mix of sun and cloud is expected with a 40 per cent chance of showers and a high of 8 C on both days.

Normal temperatures for this time of year in Kamloops are highs of 0 C and lows of -6 C.
