Snowy start to a wet week in Kamloops

KAMLOOPS – It promises to be a wintery start to the week in Kamloops before moderating temperatures turn the snow into rain for the remainder of the week.

Environment Canada meteorologist Bobby Sekhon says snow is expected in the city overnight and through tomorrow before temperatures warm up on Wednesday.

Residents can expect cloudy skies today, Dec. 10, with east winds at 20 km/h and a high of 3 Celsius. Up to two centimetres of snow is expected to fall overnight with a low of -2 C and a wind chill of -9 C.

The snow is expected to end tomorrow morning followed by a rain and snow mix that will begin in the afternoon adding another two to four cm of snow. It’s going to be windy as well, with east winds at 50 gusting to 70 km/h before diminishing to 30 by late afternoon.

Sekhon says the Coquihalla Highway could receive between 12 and 25 cm of snow between Hope and Merritt overnight Tuesday through Wednesday morning, with six to 10 cm on the highway between Merritt and Kamloops.

Tuesday’s high is 6 C with an overnight low of 0 C.

Rain showers are expected Wednesday with a high of 5 C and a low of 3 C.

It is expected to dry out a bit on Thursday with a mix of sun and clouds, a high of 5 C and a low of 2 C.

The rain returns Friday with an anticipated high of 7 C and a low of -1 C.

Normal temperatures for this time of year in Kamloops are highs of 0 C and lows of -6 C.
