Jail cell death inquest starts in February
PENTICTON – How a man died in an RCMP jail cell will be examined by the B.C. Coroner's Service in a Penticton court this February.
Steven Joseph Scott, 30, of no fixed address, died on Aug. 10, 2012 while in custody in the RCMP cells in Penticton which triggered a mandatory investigation. The inquest will run Feb. 17-21.
Presiding coroner Larry Marzinzik and a jury will hear evidence from witnesses to determine the facts surrounding this death. This jury will not, by law, make any findings of legal responsibility. This will be an opportunity to make recommendations aimed at preventing deaths under similar circumstances in the future.
