iN VIDEO: Kamloops family’s Christmas tradition lights up the night

KAMLOOPS – Every year homes throughout Kamloops are decorated with Christmas lights and people love driving around to see the displays.

Shane Stringer, who was born and raised in the city, enjoys adorning his front yard on both Halloween and Christmas. This will be his third year putting up Christmas lights and he says this year's display is the "best so far."

"We both love Christmas, my wife and I," Stringer says. "It's just a lot of fun… Inside we have three trees this year."

It took them four or five days to set up the outdoor light display in their spare time. Stringer tries to get the decorations out before the Seniors' Lights Tour in hopes the bus will stop by.

While some of the decorations are new, or pre-owned, a few came from Stringer's childhood — or were inspired by his parents. Stringer and his father used to decorate the house together. 

"One year, around the windows, [my dad] had some purple lights — I think that was before purple were a big thing," he says.

Now he puts up the purple lights as an homage to his father, and candles in the window for his mother. The brown dachshund decoration near the front door is a salute to the dogs he had growing up.

Some of the other highlights include a green projector that plays a laser animation while chiming Christmas tunes, next to a blow-up Darth Vader decoration.

"I'm just such a big Star Wars fan I just need to have, like, one thing."
