Rainy week ahead for the Okanagan

OKANAGAN – A rainy work week is in the forecast for the Okanagan with the possibility of snow towards the end of the week as temperatures cool off.

Environment Canada meteorologist Bobby Sekhon says an "atmospheric river" is pushing a mass of tropical air into the province, resulting in above normal temperatures and rising freezing levels this afternoon, Nov. 26.

He says precipitation, in the early part of the week at least, will be rain not snow, but a shifting weather pattern will start bringing temperatures down on Thursday.

There is at least a 60 per cent chance of precipitation each day this week with the possibility those showers could be flurries on Thursday and Friday.

For today, Environment Canada says to expect a high of 5 C with a 60 per cent chance of showers and snow levels rising from 700 to 1,000 metres this afternoon. Winds will shift to the south at 20 km/h through late evening, with an overnight low of 2 C.

Tomorrow will see mainly cloudy skies and a 60 per cent chance of showers with a high of 6 C. Lows will drop to 2 C overnight with a continuing 60 per cent chance of showers.

Wednesday will see a 60 per cent chance of showers with a high of 5 C and a low of 1 C.

On Thursday and Friday, expect clouds and a 60 per cent chance of flurries or showers both days, with a mix of sun and clouds forecast for Friday.

Temperatures will cool off a bit towards the end of the week, with a high of 3 C on Thursday and only 2 C on Friday, with lows dipping to 0 C and -1 C.

Normal temperatures for this time of year in the Okanagan are highs of 1 C and lows of -5 C.
