Elderly woman killed in early morning hit and run

KELOWNA – An elderly woman died as a result of an early morning hit and run in an alley in downtown Kelowna Sunday.
Julie Gillespie, 83, was walking home on Doyle Avenue at around 1:15 a.m. when she was struck by a driver who also lives in the area.
Const. Kris Clark says the woman was found alive but seriously injured and died in hospital at around 2 a.m.
The driver, a 71-year-old Kelowna woman, was arrested around 9 p.m. Sunday night and remains in custody.
Anyone with information that may help police are asked to contact RCMP at 250-762-3300.
