Woman found in Kelowna alley dies from injuries

KELOWNA – An 83-year-old woman found with serious injuries in an alley in downtown Kelowna early Sunday morning has died in hospital.

RCMP say the woman was found alone in the lane between the Kelowna Daily Courier building and the McWilliams Centre at 580 Doyle Ave. at about 1:13 a.m.

She was rushed to Kelowna General Hospital in critical condition but didn’t survive.

Police aren’t releasing any additional information about the woman’s death.

RCMP Const. Kris Clark says officers are working with the B.C. Coroners Service to determine the cause of death.

“The investigation is in the preliminary stages and ongoing,” Clark says in a media release.

The woman’s name won’t be released until RCMP contacts her family.

Investigators are hoping someone saw something in that dark alley or knows something about how the elderly woman suffered those serious injuries.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact the Kelowna RCMP at 250-762-3300. You can remain anonymous by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477, leaving a tip online at www.crimestoppers.net or by texting your tip to CRIMES (274637) ktown.
