Penticton Seniors’ Centre would like to serve liquor regularly

PENTICTON – The society behind the seniors' drop-in centre in Penticton would like to be able serve liquor.

The city has received an application from the Penticton Seniors' Drop-In Centre Society seeking a new liquor primary license for the centre with hours of service from 2 p.m. to 11p.m., seven days a week.

In a report going to city council tomorrow, Nov. 20, staff is recommending the public notification commence on the proposed licence for the seniors' centre at 2965 Main St.

The city’s Liquor Licensing Technical Review Committee took into consideration such things as location, person capacity, hours of operation, possible noise impacts and other possible impacts to the community, along with the opinion of nearby residents to the application, before endorsing the application.

There are some concerns about patrons’ ability to exit the building during emergencies that are being reviewed with the applicant, which has until council’s final consideration in December to resolve.

If council agrees to begin public consultation, staff will be seeking comments from adjacent property owners and occupants within a 90-metre radius of the property boundaries.

The results of the public process will be forwarded to council in time for the Dec. 18 council meeting, where a full report with recommendations will be brought forward for council’s consideration.
