Tires slashed at problem property in Penticton

PENTICTON – Police are investigating a tire-slashing incident that occurred during the eviction of tenants at a notorious home on Winnipeg Street yesterday.

RCMP say around 2 p.m. yesterday, Aug. 14, city bylaw officers and court bailiffs were in the process of evicting tenants from 377 Winnipeg St., a residence well known to police, when a man was seen slashing the tires of a moving truck involved in the eviction.

A large butcher knife was held toward bylaw officers and movers who approached the van. The man wielding the knife was able to escape the scene on a bicycle, riding towards Wade Avenue.

No one was injured in the incident.

Police swarmed the area but failed to locate the man, who is described as having a dark complexion, shoulder length dark hair, black clothing and riding a green coloured bicycle, police spokesperson Const. James Grandy said in a press release.

Grandy says the investigation continues as police interview several witnesses.
