Cooler temperatures, thundershowers expected in Kamloops prior to long weekend

KAMLOOPS – Cooler temperatures are predicted for Kamloops as the weekend approaches, but the relief will be short lived as temperatures are expected to rebound above the 30 Celsius mark by Monday.

Environment Canada says the city can expect a mainly sunny day today, with local smoke, and increasing cloudiness near noon then a few showers or thunderstorms. There is a severe thunderstorm watch in effect for the South and North Thompson regions including Kamloops for this afternoon and evening. The slight cooling trend means a high of 27 Celsius.

The showers are expected to continue overnight with the low down to 16 C.

Tomorrow the forecast calls for a mainly cloudy day, with local smoke, a 30 per cent chance of showers with the risk of an afternoon thunderstorm and high of 25 C.

On Saturday and Sunday the mercury will rise to around 30 C under a mix of sun and cloud.

For B.C. Day on Monday the forecast calls for sunshine and a high of 32 C.

Normal temperatures for this time of year in Kamloops are highs of 29 C and lows of 14 C.

I have been looking for news in the South Okanagan - SImilkameen for 20 years, having turned a part time lifelong interest into a full time profession. After five years publishing a local newsletter, several years working as a correspondent / stringer for several local newspapers and seven years as editor of a Similkameen weekly newspaper, I joined iNFOnews.ca in 2014. My goal in the news industry has always been to deliver accurate and interesting articles about local people and places. My interest in the profession is life long - from my earliest memories of grade school, I have enjoyed writing.
As an airborne geophysical surveyor I travelled extensively around the globe, conducting helicopter borne mineral surveys.
I also spent several years at an Okanagan Falls based lumber mill, producing glued-wood laminated products.
As a member of the Kaleden community, I have been involved in the Kaleden Volunteer Fire Department for 22 years, and also serve as a trustee on the Kaleden Irrigation District board.
I am currently married to my wife Judy, of 26 years. We are empty-nesters who enjoy living in Kaleden with our Welsh Terrier, Angus, and cat, Tibbs.
Our two daughters, Meagan and Hayley, reside in Richmond and Victoria, respectively.
