Classic cars and an iconic music star dominate Penticton weekend events

PENTICTON – Penticton will be rocking and rolling this weekend, literally and figuratively.

The Pacific Northwest Elvis Festival is back for its 17th year today, June 21 through Sunday, June 24.

The festival takes place at the Penticton Trade and Convention Centre and outdoors at Okanagan Lake Park, showcasing dozens of Elvis tribute artists.

The Tribute Show takes place Saturday, June 23 at 8 p.m. at the Penticton Trade and Convention Centre and the Judged Finals get underway at 2 p.m. also at the trade centre. Tickets are on sale at the Valley First Box Office at www.ValleyFirstTix.com. Ticket prices are $42.60, $53.80 for Saturday’s event and $31.40, $42.60 and $53.80 for the Sunday judged finals event. The Peach City Beach Cruise is three days of fun, food and entertainment as more than 800 classic and show cars are showcased on Lakeshore Drive.

The event starts tomorrow, June 22 and runs until Sunday, June 24. Friday evening is the Parade of Show Cars down Main Street, followed by a weekend of live entertainment, vendors, food, souvenirs and a beverage garden. 

The sixth annual Ride Don’t Hide biking event to raise awareness of mental health issues gets underway at 8 a.m. along the Kettle Valley Rail Trail, starting at KVR Middle School.

Participants are encouraged to put a team together for the ride, which is followed by a free barbecue. The cost is $45.

The Penticton Farmers' Market the Penticton Downtown Community Market are on Saturday, June 23, starting at 8:30 a.m.

The Farmer’s market operates until 1:00 p.m. while the community market goes to 1:30 p.m.

This week’s Farmer’s Market has been relocated to the 500 and 600 blocks of Main Street to make room for the Peach City Beach Cruise.

I have been looking for news in the South Okanagan - SImilkameen for 20 years, having turned a part time lifelong interest into a full time profession. After five years publishing a local newsletter, several years working as a correspondent / stringer for several local newspapers and seven years as editor of a Similkameen weekly newspaper, I joined iNFOnews.ca in 2014. My goal in the news industry has always been to deliver accurate and interesting articles about local people and places. My interest in the profession is life long - from my earliest memories of grade school, I have enjoyed writing.
As an airborne geophysical surveyor I travelled extensively around the globe, conducting helicopter borne mineral surveys.
I also spent several years at an Okanagan Falls based lumber mill, producing glued-wood laminated products.
As a member of the Kaleden community, I have been involved in the Kaleden Volunteer Fire Department for 22 years, and also serve as a trustee on the Kaleden Irrigation District board.
I am currently married to my wife Judy, of 26 years. We are empty-nesters who enjoy living in Kaleden with our Welsh Terrier, Angus, and cat, Tibbs.
Our two daughters, Meagan and Hayley, reside in Richmond and Victoria, respectively.
