Nine-year-old boy on scooter collides with vehicle in Kamloops

[byline]

KAMLOOPS – A nine-year-old boy is recovering after his scooter collided with a vehicle backing out of a driveway earlier this morning.

Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Jodi Shelkie says in a news release that shortly before 8 a.m. today, May 2, the boy was travelling down Coldwater Drive in Juniper on his scooter. At the same time, a driver was backing their vehicle out of their driveway in the same area.

"Due to the speed the boy was travelling at and some hedges blocking the driver’s view, the boy ran into the back of the vehicle and tumbled," Shelkie says.

He was taken to hospital with a non life-threatening injury.

Police are encouraging parents to discuss road safety with their kids and to watch for vehicles in driveways. They're also reminding drivers to look carefully for students who are back on their bikes and scooters with the warmer weather arriving.
