City of Penticton proactive on creek beds as spring freshet approaches
PENTICTON – The City of Penticton is preparing for the spring freshet by opening up its two creek beds.
The city says it will start work immediately on removal of accumulated material from Ellis and Penticton Creeks, in addition to adding rock armouring for erosion protection.
Special approval from the Province has been obtained to do the work, in accordance with proactive emergency preparedness. Other work along Penticton Creek is being carried out through normal permitting requirements.
“Members of the public may observe excavators and trucks near both creeks and are asked to proceed carefully in the vicinity of this activity,” City Engineer Ian Chapman says in a media release.
