South Okanagan could see more rain this weekend

PENTICTON – Rain and water soaked South Okanagan residents are advised not to put the umbrellas away just yet, as an active weather pattern threatens the region with more rain this weekend.

Environment Canada meteorologist Lisa West says a system approaching the Okanagan is expected to drop between 15 and 25 mm of rain on the area late tonight, April 6, and tomorrow.

West says the system is not expected to be as intense as the rainstorm on March 21 when 33 mm fell in Summerland in a short period of time, and caused localized flooding in Naramata and Okanagan Falls.

This weekend’s rainfall is expected to be much less intense.

“There’s going to be rain, but it appears less likely the intensity is going to contribute to more flooding,” West says.

West says there is a slight chance of a thunderstorm late Saturday, at 10 per cent, followed by lingering showers on Sunday prior to a weak ridge building for Monday, which is expected to bring drier and milder conditions.

That will be short lived, however, as the next system with rain approaches the South Okanagan on Tuesday night with a second system anticipated for Thursday evening, April 12.

I have been looking for news in the South Okanagan - SImilkameen for 20 years, having turned a part time lifelong interest into a full time profession. After five years publishing a local newsletter, several years working as a correspondent / stringer for several local newspapers and seven years as editor of a Similkameen weekly newspaper, I joined iNFOnews.ca in 2014. My goal in the news industry has always been to deliver accurate and interesting articles about local people and places. My interest in the profession is life long - from my earliest memories of grade school, I have enjoyed writing.
As an airborne geophysical surveyor I travelled extensively around the globe, conducting helicopter borne mineral surveys.
I also spent several years at an Okanagan Falls based lumber mill, producing glued-wood laminated products.
As a member of the Kaleden community, I have been involved in the Kaleden Volunteer Fire Department for 22 years, and also serve as a trustee on the Kaleden Irrigation District board.
I am currently married to my wife Judy, of 26 years. We are empty-nesters who enjoy living in Kaleden with our Welsh Terrier, Angus, and cat, Tibbs.
Our two daughters, Meagan and Hayley, reside in Richmond and Victoria, respectively.
