BREAKING: New charge laid against Curtis Sagmoen for alleged 2013 offence

VERNON – The man at the centre of an ongoing police investigation is facing a new charge stemming from a 2013 incident in Maple Ridge.

The RCMP Southeast District Major Crime Unit confirmed today, March 14, that an additional charge has been laid against Curtis Sagmoen, 37.

“The RCMP Southeast District Major Crime Unit is continuing their investigation into allegations against Curtis Sagmoen of violence against women,” states a release from the RCMP. “As part of this ongoing investigation, new information has come to light in relation to an incident which occurred in Maple Ridge in 2013, which permitted investigators to forward this information to the B.C. Prosecution Service for consideration of additional criminal charges against Curtis Sagmoen.”

Sagmoen is facing one count of assault causing bodily harm in relation to the 2013 offence. It’s the latest in a series of charges against Sagmoen, most relating to violence against sex trade workers. 

The Silver Creek man is already accused of assaulting a woman on July 1 near 2290 Salmon River Road, a large farm owned by his parents. That property was the site of a massive police search in late 2017. The remains of missing Vernon teen Traci Genereaux were discovered on the farm while police were executing the search warrant. No charges have been laid in her suspicious death and police have not linked Sagmoen to the investigation.

Shortly after the alleged July 1 offence, Sagmoen is accused of mischief under $5,000 for willfully placing spikes or nails on a board or spike belt to damage the tires of a female complainant’s vehicle on July 19. The following month, on Aug. 10, Sagmoen allegedly committed an assault causing bodily harm, also in close proximity to the farm. On Aug. 27, Sagmoen allegedly threatened an escort with a gun before she fled.

An iNFOnews.ca exclusive report revealed another woman attended the area after receiving an inquiry on her backpage.ca ad. She wasn’t assaulted, but fled fearing for her life. 

Sagmoen goes to trial on the mischief charge in December, and is due for a pair of preliminary inquiries in late 2018.

None of the allegations have been proven in court.
