Multicultural event highlights weekend activity in Penticton

PENTICTON – Penticton’s annual multicultural festival returns to Penticton this weekend, along with a seedy Saturday event and father daughter dance to remind us spring isn’t far away.

The fifth annual One World Multicultural Festival provides residents with a chance to sample the food and customs of more than 25 different cultures represented by both new and established immigrants living and working in the Okanagan.

The festival, which is organized and presented by the South Okanagan Immigrant and Community Services, is free.

The event hosts cultural information booths, multicultural performances, and offers a chance to taste international cuisines, all under one roof at the Penticton Lakeside Resort on Saturday, Feb. 24 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

“We are looking forward to seeing families enjoy the event. It is a moving experience which brings together our entire community to celebrate the gift of diversity in the South Okanagan-Similkameen region,” says community services program manager Tahira Saheed.

A sure sign of spring is a Seedy Saturday sale, and there is one taking place this weekend at Okanagan College on Saturday, Feb. 24.

The 15th annual seed and plant sale also has master gardeners, workshops, free parking, and door prizes. Vendors will be on hand with organic seed, bedding plants, honey and juice for purchase.

Seedy Saturday in Penticton runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., cost is a $2 donation. For more information, call Laurel Burnham at 250-460-0177.

Penticton’s annual Snowflake Ball takes place at the Penticton Seniors Centre on Sunday, Feb. 25 from 4 to 7 p.m.

The special night for daughter and dad includes dinner, dancing, games and the interactive DJ Nathan Shakes Heiberg. Cost for daughter and dad is $30. For more information, call Kori Wyborn at 250-462-0306.
