Family Day in Okanagan sunny but cold

OKANAGAN – It may be unseasonably cold in the Okanagan for the Family Day holiday, but at least it’s sunny.

Environment Canada is calling for a mainly sunny day throughout the Okanagan Valley today, Feb. 12, with the mercury struggling to climb to -5 Celsius from an overnight low of around -12 C.

Penticton will fair slightly better than its northern counterparts with a high of -2 C.

Cloud is forecast to move into the valley overnight with the wind south at 20 kilometres per hour gusting to 40 km/h after midnight and a low of around -7.

We are in for a snowy day tomorrow with periods of snow beginning in the afternoon, a brisk wind out of the east and daytime high temperature of -3 C. Forecasters are predicting we will receive two centimetres of snow.

The periods of snow will continue overnight Tuesday with a low of around -4.

The rest of the week will be mostly cloudy with the sun shining through off and on temperatures moderate toward normals for this time of year.

Wednesday is forecast to be cloudy with a chance of flurries and a high of 1 C, while on Thursday we should see a mix of sun and cloud with a high of 1 C.

The forecast calls for a cloudy day on Friday with a high of 1 C.

Normal temperatures for this time of year are highs of 2 C and lows of -5 C.
